everyday Boating - A Hobby Or a Sport?

In the days of the old Egyptians, Pharaohs would take their families and royal households on boats and barges down the great Nile River to view their kingdom and servants. They would be updated on the harvest, how well or poorly it was advent along, how the slaves were progressing on the construction of the pyramids, and of their rivals in other countries. Not only did this event of riding a royal boat down the Nile cement the Pharaoh's status as ruler of Egypt, it also gave his family time away from the palace and pressures of royal life to just enjoy each other and reconnect with each other. Thus, boating became a family hobby for many of the Pharaohs and their Nobles. It was not long before this relaxing get away was noticed by other civilizations and copied. Even today, the enjoyment of boating, be it on a freshwater lake, or a deep sea fishing trip, still brings families together and makes vacations last a little while longer.

There are many reasons to choose boating as a hobby or a sport. For one thing, the entire family can be a part of it and enjoy it at the same time. If a family decided to rent a house boat for a week, there would be planning and making ready that the kids could be involved with. They could learn how to use a map and sexton to navigate the waters during the night and might even be able to convince their parents to let them drive the boat for a few minutes. This would give the parents time to reacquaint themselves with their children and each other because they would be pretty isolated from the exterior would. If a fishing trip for a day is more acceptable by the children, they could learn how to cast, bait, and take care of their own fishing rod and any fish they caught. If the children were old enough, they could learn how to get, clean, and filet their fish, all the while bonding with their parents.

Boating

Boating can also be relaxing sufficient to help a man eliminate some of the stress in their life because it is fun. Dream driving away from the dock, wind whipping straight through your hair, the spray of the water and knowing that for the next few hours or days, you did not have to do anyone but dive, float, fish, and swim. If you wanted to water ski, you would already be on the water, just get the ski on and go. It could turn out that boating is the best thing you did for yourself.

everyday Boating - A Hobby Or a Sport?

Safety on the water is the most prominent thing to remember before stepping on to a boat. First, know what the weather will be like while you are on the water. Obviously, it is a bad idea to boat during a thunderstorm. Make certain you have all things needed and an emergency bag, just in case, by using a check list before leaving the docks. Use the life rescue equipment, like life jackets and know where the inflatable rafts are, just in case. Just like in a car, do not drive drunk in a boat. It is just as dangerous and can land you in jail too. Know how to swim, at least doggie paddle, if you are in issue in the water.

Outdoor Shower Enclosures

Shower enclosures can be portable or stationary. Stationary enclosures, surprisingly, add a level of excitement to your landscape. There are many ways to design them. Here are a few design tips.

Fence Enclosures

Outdoor

Most shower enclosures are just a fence with a gate. It is the most economical way to build an enclosure. You can expect to pay colse to .00 per linear foot to a undertaker of a package deal to build the enclosure.

Outdoor Shower Enclosures

Wood Enclosures

Wood is one of the best choices. It is elegant, but more importantly it connects you with nature. Avoid any products made of plastic; like vinyl. Vinyl and plastic enclosures scream man made. The purpose of landscaping is to rejuvenate your emotions. The way to do this is to associate with nature. So, please, avoid vinyl and plastic products.

Don't pick pressure treated wood. It will not only contaminate the surroundings, but it doesn't look natural. Pick cedar or redwood. Make the fence stand out by using elegant post caps, larger than midpoint posts (6*6), and trim work.

Don't stain the fence any color, but clear. Natural high capability wood is more gorgeous than any stain you can buy.

Stone Base

Use stone for the shower base. Probably, the best choices are go for pieces of flagstone. go for pieces are larger than normal. They look much nicer and stay in place better. In addition, there are less cracks to deal with. other incommunicable to flagstone is the use of polmeric sand. It's a specially formulated sand that dries hard like concrete. It's a good product to use between the flagstone pieces because water can't water can't wash it away and it looks like real sand.

Again, if you are reasoning about concrete; think again. To associate with nature, it must be natural.

Shower Drainage

You will need to install a drain in your shower base. To do so, simply dig a trench two feet deep and slope it so the water goes away from the shower into a safe place. determine where the end of the water should drain. You have some options here. You could have it drain into a hole filled with gravel, hook it into the sewer line, or just have the pipe lay in the ground. It all depends on the frequency of your shower use and the costs you are willing to incur.

Final Tips

Outdoor showers have three purposes. To help you associate with nature and habitancy and, of course, to get clean. Any design you pick should blend in with the landscape. The shower should be close enough to your home that you will use it often. Finally, there is a romantic element to outdoor showers. The enclosure should promote nature, romance, and fun.

Outdoor Ceiling Fans

If you are planning on installing a ceiling fan in an outdoor location, it is prominent to buy a fan that is designed specifically for that purpose. If you install an indoor fan in an outdoor area it is likely to short out (which can be hazardous) or naturally break down prematurely. Outdoor ceiling fans are designed differently than indoor ceiling fans because they need to be able to the soldiery of mom nature.

Here are some of the ways that outdoor ceiling fans differ from those made for indoors:

Outdoor

The ornamental motor casing is whether sealed or designed to preclude water or moisture from coming in palpate with the actual motor inside. The wiring is a higher grade with added shielding. Screws and other components are typically made of stainless steel. The terminate on the motor casing and hardware is ordinarily a weather resistant powder coat, stainless steel, or has some added protective coating that can deal with exposure to the elements. The blades are likely made of Abs plastic rather than plywood. Abs is a very strong durable material that resists warping and discoloration from moisture or Uv exposure. Light fixtures are sealed on top and designed for outdoors The mounting hardware is whether water tight or designed to preclude water from entering from above.
There are 2 types of outdoor ceiling fans, those rated for Damp locations and those rated for Wet locations. There is a illustrious dissimilarity between the two and it is prominent that you select the right type for your application. In whether case, make sure the fan you buy is Ul Listed for the application you need so that you know it can be safely installed without creating a possible electrical hazard.

Outdoor Ceiling Fans

Here are the differences between the two types of outdoor fans:

Damp rated outdoor fans are designed to deal with moisture but not direct palpate with rain or running water. Therefore, a damp rated outdoor ceiling fan can be installed in a covered area such as a patio or screened in porch or other areas that are protected from rain or dripping water.

Wet rated outdoor fans are designed to deal with direct exposure to rain. They can be installed in virtually any indoor or outdoor location, covered or uncovered. So you can install a wet rated outdoor ceiling fan in an open gazebo, lattice covered lanai or other similar shade structure as well as under a covered porch or patio. Because wet rated outdoor fans are pretty much water tight, you can well clean them by hosing them off...which is a great reckon to buy a wet rated fan even if all you need is a damp rated model.

Commonly asked questions about outdoor fans:

Can an outdoor ceiling fan be installed indoors?

Yes, you can install an outdoor fan in your living room or any other room in your home where you want a fan. Many population will do this naturally because they like the look of a singular outdoor fan. Also, outdoor fans are very recommended for laundry rooms and bathrooms or any other room inside your home that that tends to have immoderate moisture. In more humid climates, outdoor fans are a great option for every room in the home.

I live in a very windy area and have had problems with blades breaking off...are there any outdoor fans that are made to deal with high winds?

High winds can in fact sheer the blades off a ceiling fan, particularly cheaper models that use lightweight materials. ordinarily it is the metal blade holders that attach the blades to the fan that break rather than the blades themselves. So if you are in an area prone to high winds, outdoor fans that do not have blade holders are your best choice. If the fan is to be installed in an area that is 9 feet high or less, a hugger style outdoor fan is even better. A excellent example of such a fan is the Minka Aire Concept Ii Wet, which is one of the very few outdoor fans that meet this criteria.

Are there any outdoor fans that are designed to be taken down well or that have blades that are easy to take off when a storm is coming?

This is a very common question. Unfortunately the write back is no. There are no ceiling fans designed with a "Quick Disconnect" mechanism or with blades that snap on and off. However, I suppose that if any fan maker came up with such a fan it would be a big seller.

Running wires and installing a junction box can be difficult in many outdoor applications. Are there any outdoor ceiling fans that are battery operated?

Although Dc powered ceiling fans are now in fact available, they are not yet marvelous adequate to deal with the needs of outdoor applications, nor are they being designed to work from batteries. Currently, most Dc powered ceiling fans use an Ac/Dc converter, so they still need electrical wiring. However, I would look for this to convert in the near future...most likely in the next year or two.

Can a remote control be added to an outdoor ceiling fan?

Most add-on remotes or wall controls are not rated for use outdoors, so unless the control is specifically designed for the fan you are inspecting and is rated for the exact application (Damp or Wet), then you should not use it. If a remote control or wall control is prominent to you, look for outdoor fans that have such a control included with the fan.

Can any light fixture be added to an outdoor ceiling fan?

No. Just as ceiling fans are rated for Damp or Wet locations, so are the light fixtures that are used with them. Make sure you buy a light fixture that is made by the maker of the fan and that has the same rating. If you want an outdoor fan with a light fixture, your best bet is to buy one comes with one, this way you can be inescapable they are compatible.

Sports - America's Obsession

If you watch situation comedies, the one thing that you will notice, or at least should notice, is that situation comedies make fun of real life situations. That's why they're funny, because they're all about things we can describe to. On an chapter of "Home Improvement" Jill asks Tim if he's ready to go with her to some party. He replies by telling her he has to watch the game. Jill, finding that he had just accomplished watching a game, says to him that she conception he had just done that. Tim's reply is, "That was the game Before the big game".

Yes, America is obsessed with sports. It doesn't matter what the sport is even. Baseball, football, basketball, hockey, horse racing, you name it. If there is some kind of sporting event on the tube, you're typical American male can be seen sitting in front of that tube, remote in one hand and a cold beer in the other. And if you think that sounds like a situation comedy, then you haven't been to a typical American home with a wife, a husband and 2.5 children. It is more typical than you can imagine. That's why many American homes have more than one Tv. The wife will lock herself inside one room watching her soaps, while the kids have a Tv in their room to watch cartoons and the husband has his big screen Tv all to himself to watch, well, whatever sporting event he can find.

Sports

And it doesn't even matter what time of year it is. There is always something on the tube to watch. In the spring, summer and fall there is Major League Baseball. In the summer, fall and part of winter there's professional Football. In the fall, winter and spring there is Pro Basketball and Pro Hockey. In the spring and summer there is the Pga tour. In fall, winter and spring there is the Pba tour. In the fall and spring there is horse racing. The list goes on and on. You can't turn on your Tv set one day out of the 365 that science has given us without finding something that resembles a sporting event.

Sports - America's Obsession

The question we need to ask and talk if possible, is why? Why are American men so obsessed with sports? Many psychologists feel it is simply a male macho thing, to put it in layman's terms. The American male is so insecure about his own masculinity that he feels the only way to show the world that he is well a man is by watching sports. Some men take this to extremes in that they will only watch sports that are carefully "cool" sports or the ones that only "real" men watch. Football is right up at the top of this list because it is so violent. A man who sits in front of his Tv with a beer watching a football game is a "real" man. Nobody would ever dispute that.

The truth is, nobody well knows why American men are so obsessed with sports. Maybe the talk is simpler than what we keep searching for.

Maybe they just like sports.

The Colts had only lost one game all year, but that didn't stop Namath and the Jets who went on to win by a score of 16-7 even though they were 18 point underdogs.

For those of you who are into the Olympics, there have been many great Olympic moments. Probably one of the most was on October 18, 1968, when a guy by the name of Bob Beamon broke the long jump world record. The 24 year old from New York broke the record by a whole two feet, which was verily amazing. The old record was 27 feet and 4 3/4 inches. Beamon jumped an extraordinary 29 feet and 2 1/2 inches.

But probably the most sports occasion of all time was on February 22, 2003. On this date, the impossible happened. It was the Winter Olympics and it was ice hockey. The Soviet Union had all the time dominated this sport and this year they were an absolute powerhouse. In the meantime, the United States had put together a bunch of teenage amateurs. These guys weren't even supposed to make it to the medal round, let alone do what they did. They defeated the Soviet Union, even before the finals and then went on to beat Finland to take the gold medal. But it was their defeat of the unbeatable Soviet Union on this date that shocked the sports world and makes this the hands down most occasion in sports history.
