For less than $20 this U-lock does its job. It isn't the most sturdy lock out there, if you plan to leave your bike outside for long period of time, especially in cities where bike theft is high such as SF or NY; then this isn't the lock for you (you'll probably want to get more expensive lock or at least get a locking cable). For short periods of time and in places like the park or college campus, this lock works fine. It is also a flat lock type so it is better than most cylinder locks. The bracket for me didn't work where it was intended because my frame was too big on the top, however like in one of the pictures, I put the bracket on the side and it works wonders. If you look at the image of the product, the bike mount is actually on the opposite side and thus cannot actually be attached to the bike. Apparently they didn't test the production version. Sadly, I'm the fool because several reviewers already pointed that out. Lock cannot be hung off the top tube as the primary image would have you think. See the other user-supplied pictures for ways to attach to your bike to determine if this will work for you before ordering. Unsatisfactory. I weep for our generation. This lock was very easy to mount (see I. Xu's picture for a detailed look), regardless of what other reviewers (those with no spatial sense, perhaps? Or unable to follow the simplest of directions?) have written. It's sturdy, and easy to use. It also comes with the option to register the lock, so new keys can be issued in the event of loss. What's not to like? Lock is ok not perfect..On the second day the key is not turning..and yes button is on wrong side..I have GMC Denali Bike and I ordered through Amazon So I initially wrote: "The lock may be fine but the mounting bracket is terrible (unless I'm missing something... In which case please tell me). The silver part on the 'U' lock itself, which is supposed to slide into the black plastic mounting bracket, faces the wrong way. It's hard to describe but basically you can't clip the lock onto your bike and have sit (or hang) within that triangle made by the main bars/beams. Instead it sticks out and will get in the way of your peddling. Very annoying."But I WAS missing something. You can use the Hex Wrench that comes with it to loosen and rotate the silver part (which I think is actually called the 'spline on the shackle'). So this lock mounting thing is not a problem. Go ahead and buy it. No extra tools or anything are required. I totally take back my bad review. I'm still only giving it 4 stars because they shouldn't sell it with the shackle tightened in a position that isn't useful to anyone. Compared to most of kryptonites' products, this is cheap. Sturdy and does the job. Just remember that locks are pretty only theft deterrents, as someone will be able to steal your bike if they really want to.Note: The key does require some jiggling sometimes. This lock is great. Only problem I ran into was the holder bracket. It's on the wrong side, Never intended to use it as I can just put the lock in my backpack. The lock is easy to use and seams pretty strong, time will tell. I did not want one of those dainty cable locks, i am a key kinda guy, they include TWO keys, which is great i lost one :DIt would take a very large pair of bolt cutters to get through this. The BIKE MOUNT works great, easy to use, once you figure out what the rubber is for, it has never caused troube where i mounted it on the side. Key fits in smoothly.
