For those of you who have the clamp, why

For those of you who have the clamp, why don't you simply unlock the you lock, flip it around and relock it. Bam, the clamp is on the right side. And if the clamp itself is facing the wrong direction (so instead of facing the inside portion of the u-lock, it's facing outwards, or some other odd angle) just attach the mount (the piece that fastens the lock to your bike) and that should give you enough leverage to turn the clamp the right direction. I can't believe so many have been duped by this... Don't let all the poor idiot reviewers trick you into thinking there's something wrong with this product. It's completely fine, you just have to think a little.Anyway, this lock isn't so bad, its just a little thin for a bike theft heavy area but should suit your purposes just fine if you live in a relatively safe neighborhood. Overall I would buy it if you're not living in the city. I bought this lock as well as a white 'skin' cover. After driving myself crazy thinking I was missing something, I look at the reviews and find that many people have had the same issue that I've had. The piece that fits into the bracket to mount it onto your bike is on the wrong side of the lock. Because of the design of the lock you cannot simply change sides. This is a flaw that must occur at assembly.Like previous reviewers, I'm dumbfounded that a company such as Kryptonite that has been around for many years would not only have this problem but it would be ongoing.I'm returning the lock and the skin, which by the way is a huge pain in the rear to put on the lock. But another lock if you want it to clip onto your bike frame. Tons of people are saying that the clamp is on the wrong side, but it's not. The clamp spins around so you can find a good position for it. If it doesn't move just loosen the Phillips head screw that holds it in place, and then tighten it back up once you are done. I've had this lock for about a month and so far I've still got a bike. Like some of the other reviewers, I couple this lock with a thick cable to wrap around the frame/tires. It's big enough for my large framed bike and I like that it comes with a frame mount for the lock. Beware though, that red button you see in the product pic is meant to release the lock from the mount, but it's super flimsy and is hardly functional. Also, other reviewers mentioned that the frame mount was attached incorrectly (backwards) however I haven't found that to be the case with my lock. Got these for our kids to lock their bikes up at school. Work good and not to big. They have BMX style bikes so the bracket doesn't fit anywhere that isn't in the way, so they just put them in their backpacks. Great lock. The whole lock is sturdy and easy to install. Sometimes, it's a little hard to lock it up and takes a few time before doing so. My bike lock has the clip on the wrong side so my lock does not fasten properly onto my bike. My clip is on the side with the key hole. I have this lock for about 20 months. It was alright when I first got it. Then it started to get hard to turn the key for reasons I just figured out about 2 months ago. I normally hang the lock on the docking device as indicated in the second picture of this product. When it's hung on the dock, the dock will push the little plastic piece at the end of U shaped metal towards the metal bar which has the lock mechanism. It's not easy to see the problem from the first picture because it's somewhat deceiving. The keyhole is actually on the side that's closer to the docking apparatus for which you can look at the second picture where the lock is hung on the bike. The problem of docking apparatus pinching the plastic piece was that the plastic piece would then force the U metal away from the lock mechanism. The lock mechanism is a small flat metal rotating in and out a crevice. The pinching will cause the small flat metal to deviate from the crevice vertically and then you end up fighting hard to open the lock. The fix is easy. Push the plastic piece back and open the lock, but it's just unpleasant that you have to do it every other day.I thought I was smart to figure this out and the smartness stopped two month after when I could no longer open the lock. It seems something is protruding from the bottom of the keyhole and now my bike is locked on the bike rack and I am wondering how to get it out. If you care enough to buy a lock for your bike in the first place, then you should care enough to get a lock that works better and easier than another lock, on top of giving you great security, so you will get into a habit of employing it all the time and not be lazy because the lock takes more effort to use. Lazy? Yes, and laziness is the biggest reason to not use a lock you bought to protect your bike. Just having a strong U-lock isn't good enough. You have to use it. An unused lock is the worst security feature a lock can have. Easier, with top security features is just better. You'll use this Kryptonite lock and that will save your bike more times than you will ever know. I put it in the same realm as building a better mouse trap.Having returned an On-Guard 5510 Mini U-Lock with Additional Security Cable (4 feet) to Wal-Mart where I had bought that lock, I chose this Kryptonite lock instead because, although On-Guard claims to be "obsessed" about security they sure aren't when it comes to product design. Bottom line is if you have a lock that is not as easy for you to use, then you will of course use it less and take a bigger risk with your bike becoming a crime statistic (stolen).Amazon had Wal-Mart beat on price for this Kryptonite lock, too. Comparing Amazon's service to Wal-Mart's wouldn't really help, since Wal-Mart forgot what service is years ago, and Amazon has consistently provided me with better service in all areas for many years now. Shipping for this lock, along with Avenir Tightrope Cables (12mm / 7 feet) - to make securing my bike a more complete security system for my wheels and saddle along with making more work for a would-be thief - and a Bell Dawn Patrol LED Headlight took just 4 days using Super Saver shipping, and you can't beat that. My Planet Bike Blinky "3" 3-Led Rear Bicycle Light, that I purchased at the same time, was packaged and sent along separately, but still arrived on the same day. Look for those reviews from me, too, should you like this one. This U-lock is very tough and I don't think you could easily find something that would cut through it, at least not something you could easily carry with you and go unnoticed. Seems more like someone would have to use a diamond wheeled grinder type of cutter with a power drill, at the very least, and that sure wouldn't be discrete or fail to draw attention. So while someone would not be able to easily steal your bike with this lock - if properly secured - for errands, short trips to a store, or in a busier type of place where you could even leave your bike all day, it won't be for you if you leave your bike in high-crime areas. I wouldn't trust this lock to be the only means of securing your bike at night for a long period of time or in an area with few people around and little activity during the day, as people being around and seeing your bike is one step in your security plan to make stealing your bike a less attractive option for a thief. One thing I really like about this Kryptonite lock over the On-Guard U-lock is that while On-Guard uses a dual, straight bayonet system on both sides of the locking arm to attach to the shackle, this Kryptonite U-Lock has an easier and better system to attach the locking arm onto the shackle. It's not dual, straight bayonet on both sides. One side of the locking arm of this Kryptonite lock has a short, angled part of the locking arm that helps you to guide and fit the locking arm into the shackle for that side, then you just swing the locking arm around the frame of your bike and a stationary object and clasp the other side of the locking arm (which has a straight bayonet fitting) into the other side of the shackle, then lock it by turning the key.To me, Kryptonite's is just a better design that makes attaching the locking arm to the shackle a little easier in warm, dry conditions and especially easier in cold, wet conditions. It also makes it easier to attach the locking arm to the shackle by obtaining a little leverage, if needed, for those times when you have to use a stationary object (like a pole) that is larger in diameter than some others when you lock up your bike. The dual, straight bayonet system for the locking arm with On-Guard's lock makes you press down and use compression alone (your muscle strength) for attaching the locking arm to the shackle. Kryptonite's design, with one side of the actual locking piece of the arm at an angle, lets you lock that side in and pull as well as push down on the locking arm if you need to.As luck would have it, since I have received this lock the weather has taken a turn from nice and warm to colder than a mother-in-law's kiss, with ongoing cold rain or drizzle and I have really found out just how much better Kryptonite's design and locking system works, which means it just makes it that much easier to lock up my bike. Locking up my bike properly is a habit I don't want to break. If a lock is more of a pain in the butt for me to use, like the dual, straight bayonet system On-Guard uses in their U-lock design, then I'm less likely to use it all the time, which means a thief will be more likely to take my bike. And that would make me sad.In short, you spent your good money on your bicycle purchase. Spend a little more and get a good U-lock like this one, or a stronger one if your area is more of a high-crime/high risk area, and use it along with a good cable like the Avenir Tightrope Cables (12mm / 7 feet). Little out-of-pocket cash, but you will have a security system that will intimidate most thieves, so the opportunists will give up without even trying and the more determined thief will move on to an easier target. For those interested in Kryptonite's Anti-Theft Protection offer, yes, you can register the lock and your bike with Kryptonite. You must verify your bike's serial number and purchase price with Kryptonite plus pay a yearly fee, along with other requirements and restrictions. It is all detailed in the enclosed package with the lock, and is available on Kryptonite's website if you want to know more. This bike lock is sturdy and strong but not too heavy to carry in a bracket on your bike. The bracket socket on the lock is in a weird place that makes it hard to anchor it straight on your bike. I settled for a creative solution that most people can figure out given a little thought and time. The lock is hard to remove when you unlock it but that may be for security reasons. Just don't expect this one to come off as quickly as some other U-locks when you unlock it. But it gets the job done and is secure. louis garneau x lite helmet xlab super wing black rockshox xc30tk coil 100mm 26 louis garneau carbon x lite endura hummvee lite short wlite early rider classic bike natural mens hollandia land cruiser bike polaris mens iq cruiser bike ride2 crank arm shorteners for abus citychain 1010 chain lock tour master elite motorcycle cover vargo titanium water bottle 650 schwalbe castelli 201213 cw 3 0 light motion 11 1v 3 track fixie road bike frame basil pasja animal basket lg schwalbe racing ralph tire 26 giro hex bike helmet matte sidi women triathlon shoes t2 adrenaline promotions south florida cycling campagnolo raytech long sleeve full ravx pace stem carbon fiber castelli iride seamless top short giordana forma red carbon jersey shimano fd 6703 ultegra triple sugoi rs bib shortblacksmall skinz bike protector road wo selle italia c2 gel flow wheel master velocity b43 wheel ibex womens shak vestblackmedium rox speed fx 1 18in razor dsx16 16in kids bike cycling bicycle bike comfortable outdoor shimano sh m088 mountain shoes pearl izumi mens elite pursuit skirt sports womens cruiser bike poc spine vpd vest white pearl izumi womens infinity intercool serfas tri bicycle saddle black mavic syncro blackred head circumference pearl izumi mens canyon jerseyblackx giordana silverline super roubaix bib kryptonite new york disc lock surly hitchyolk assembly for trailer rear cargo basket wremovable liner selle smp extra saddle lazer kiss helmet with visor campagnolo centaur ultradrive 10sp cassette shimano xt m785 left disc shimano ultegra 6500 2x9sp chainring sidi design series nevada shoes sugoi mens rpm bib knicker trp rl950 fork 27x1 thread action crmo odyssey g sport rollcage front miami citizen bike 20 6 profile design fast forward al yokozuna reaction road shimsram smoke diggin active skuut wooden balance adidas outdoor terrex gore tex surly frame bag for pugsley pearl izumi womens pro ultrasoft schwalbe furious fred tire 29 deuter hydro lite pack 3 axiom kootenay dlx pannier 2441 jandd economy pannier black kiddi o fold n go mavic notch short mens autobahn rst capa t10 20 50mm keen mens coronado cruiser cycling schwinn girls mist bicycle notubes 32 hole presta ztr pearl izumi mens fly evo selle italia slk gel flow bont cervelo test team shoe blackburn ex saddle bicycle bag park tool frame and fork pearl izumi mens fly softshell world jerseys mens poland cycling sperry top sider womens bluefish origin8 square top track single pearl izumi mens mtb thermal exustar mens exustar sr931k carbon thule fit kit for 400xt avon av71 cobra front tire evo handlebar basket 25 4mm thule fit kit for 400xt kenda k284 k284 atv tire brooks saddles b33 bicycle saddle rush fly by night cycling poc index air 12 glove thule 753 specialty load carrier adrenaline promotions virginia cycling jerseylarge pearl izumi mens pro intercool twin six t6 sack blackgreen cateye comp micro wireless cycling michelin pro3 race road tire magicshine mj 868 white 1000 avid elixir 9 front disc
